Congresswoman Maxine Waters helped to distribute Thanksgiving turkeys to non-profit organizations based in California's 35th Congressional District on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the Behavioral Health Services' Pacifica House in Hawthorne. The turkey giveaway was made possible by the Golden State Water Company, as part of the company's annual "Operation Gobble" program, which has been donating the holiday staple to organizations that service the homeless, seniors, children, military veterans and needy families throughout California since 1990.

On Monday, the brand-new Playa Vista Elementary School just off Lincoln Boulevard held its official grand opening ceremony, complete with statements from politicians, educators, parents and students - many of whom were not yet born when the plan to build the school was conceived.
"As National Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to an end, I express my support for those engaged in the ongoing fight against the most common cancer among women in our country. Breast cancer is a disease that knows no boundaries and doesn't discriminate. It can strike anyone, women and men, regardless of age, race or economic background.
"National Domestic Violence Awareness Month serves as an opportunity for us to rededicate ourselves to ensuring that every victim of domestic violence is safe and offenders are held accountable for their actions.

A former press secretary for the Democratic lawmaker said Dymally died Sunday in Los Angeles. He was 86.
Jasmine Cannick said Dymally's health had been in decline.
Born in Trinidad in 1926, Mervyn Dymally came to the United States at 19. He got a degree at Cal State University Los Angeles, became a U.S. citizen and a teacher. He also got involved in Democratic politics, winning election as assemblyman in 1962.

With the retired orbiter parked on Manchester Boulevard, the Inglewood High School marching band warmed up the crowd before several public officials and three former astronauts took to a small stage for about 30 minutes of remarks.

Today, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-35) joined Inglewood's Mayor James Butts, the Inglewood City Council and Jeffrey Rudolph, CEO of the California Science Center for a viewing event of the space shuttle Endeavour. The shuttle arrived at the Forum in Inglewood on its second day of travel to its final destination at the California Science Center.
