I know there has been great concern recently about COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus, and what we can do as a community to protect our families. It is imperative that you remain calm, informed, and follow the guidance of our Los Angeles County public health experts and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). My staff and I are closely monitoring the situation, and we have compiled this webpage to help better inform you and your families.

Bridge to Work-Foster Youth Career Pathways Project

I am proud to request funding for the following Community Projects – which will benefit the diverse communities in my congressional district – in the surface transportation reauthorization legislation that is currently under consideration in the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure:
LOS ANGELES – Congresswomen Maxine Waters (CA-43) and Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44) released the following joint statement on the shooting death of Andres Guardado by a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy in Gardena:
"Another day, and another Black or Brown kid has been shot in the back by police. These killings must stop. We demand it. The American people demand it.
"Andres Guardado is the latest young man of color killed by police gunfire. He was shot in the back. The officers involved did not wear body cameras.
LOS ANGELES – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), Chair of the House Committee on Financial Services, and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) distributed non-surgical, washable masks and the location of local COVID-19 testing sites to residents of Avalon Gardens Public Housing Development on Friday, June 5.
LOS ANGELES – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43) joined with Los Angeles Southwest College President, Dr. Seher Ahwan, administrators, faculty, and staff to virtually honor 130 students who earned the 2020 President's Scholars recognition.
Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC) President's Scholars are students who have maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average for three consecutive semesters. The virtual awards ceremony and Congresswoman Waters' keynote speech will air on Thursday, May 28 on LASC's YouTube page.
