LOS ANGELES – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Financial Services Committee, marked the 80th anniversary of the landmark Social Security Act. Signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935, the Social Security Act has provided economic stability and retirement security to millions of hard working Americans. The Congresswoman released the following statement:
LOS ANGELES -- Yesterday, Congresswoman Maxine Waters and her fellow California Delegation Democrat colleague, Karen Bass, joined in sending a letter to the California State Senate President pro Tempore, Kevin de Leon and the Speaker of the California Assembly, Toni Atkins, urging them to support legislation that will impose a moratorium on the Ellis Act, a California law that is increasingly being abused to evict hundreds of veterans, elderly persons, and families.
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Financial Services Committee and Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Task Force on Alzheimer's Disease, marked the 50th anniversary of the creation of Medicare and Medicaid. President Lyndon Johnson signed into law legislation creating Medicare and Medicaid on July 30, 1965.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), Ranking Member of the Financial Services Committee, commended the decision of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to grant her request to extend the public comment period on the FAA's Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Southern California Metroplex (SoCal Metroplex) project. The public comment period on the Draft EA has been extended by 60 calendar days to September 8, 2015.
