The debate over the presence of armed police officers at airport passenger screening areas continued Friday as lawmakers met at Los Angeles International Airport to take a fresh look at November's deadly sh

More than four months after a shooting at Los Angeles International Airport left one TSA agent dead, others wounded and passengers terrified, a congressional hearing was held Friday to review recommendations for security improvements at LAX.

The congresswoman whose district includes Los Angeles International Airport says the Transportation Security Administration's recommendations to improve security are a good first step in addressing concerns after a deadly shooting last year.

Yet another proposal for winding down Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and overhauling the nation's housing finance system will be put before Congress on Thursday, this one by Representative Maxine Waters of California, the ranking Democratic member of the Financial Services Committee.

Today, Government Sponsored Enterprise (GSE) Fannie Mae announced it has earned a fourth quarter profit of $6.5 billion in 2013 and will repay $7.2 billion to the U.S. Department of the Treasury in March. The payment will mean the company has returned $121.1 billion back to the taxpayers –returning even more than the $116.1 billion it received after being taken over by the government in 2008.

Today, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43) called for security problems at LAX to be fixed immediately and urged that police officers be stationed at airport passenger screening checkpoints.

"I welcome TSA's report and recommendations that focus on improving employee training, communication systems and policies, and enhanced law enforcement presence at airports nationwide. These recommendations are a positive first step following the tragic shooting incident at LAX in November, which resulted in the death of TSA officer Gerardo Hernandez, who was killed in the line of duty.
