Congresswoman: TSA's recommendations good 1st step

April 2, 2014

The congresswoman whose district includes Los Angeles International Airport says the Transportation Security Administration's recommendations to improve security are a good first step in addressing concerns after a deadly shooting last year.

Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters says the TSA's recommendation for armed law enforcement to be stationed at screening checkpoints during peak hours addresses a concern about the airport's security protocols that she identified last year.

Waters has called the airport's emergency response to the Nov. 1 shooting an embarrassment. A gunman targeting TSA officers killed one and wounded three other people.

The 25-page report to Congress obtained by The Associated Press makes 14 recommendations after a review of security at nearly 450 airports nationwide.
