LOS ANGELES -- Yesterday, Congresswoman Maxine Waters and her fellow California Delegation Democrat colleague, Karen Bass, joined in sending a letter to the California State Senate President pro Tempore, Kevin de Leon and the Speaker of the California Assembly, Toni Atkins, urging them to support legislation that will impose a moratorium on the Ellis Act, a California law that is increasingly being abused to evict hundreds of veterans, elderly persons, and families.

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Financial Services Committee and Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Task Force on Alzheimer's Disease, marked the 50th anniversary of the creation of Medicare and Medicaid. President Lyndon Johnson signed into law legislation creating Medicare and Medicaid on July 30, 1965.

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Financial Services Committee and a leading advocate in Congress for HIV/AIDS prevention, testing and treatment, introduced a resolution (H.Res. 366) in the House of Representatives today to honor National Clinicians HIV/AIDS Testing and Awareness Day, which is celebrated on July 21st, and encourages the nation's health care providers to promote HIV testing among their patients. The resolution was cosponsored by 23 Members of Congress.

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ), Co-Chairs of the bipartisan Congressional Task Force on Alzheimer's Disease, today introduced Alzheimer's Action Now, a package of four bills that together will help Alzheimer's patients and their families; promote public awareness of Alzheimer's disease; and encourage voluntary contributions to research efforts. The entire legislative package has been endorsed by the Alzheimer's Association, the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, and USAgainstAlzheimer's.
