Despite campaigning on a platform of creating jobs and boosting the economy, some of the first pieces of legislation Republicans have taken up in the 112th Congress are measures that would restrict women's access to abortion and family planning services.
At a press conference ahead of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution hearing on H.R. 3, the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act" today, House Judiciary Democrats staunchly rejected Republicans' characterization of the bill as a federal funding measure. In their remarks, Judiciary Democrats, led by Ranking Member John Conyers, Jr.
Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) entered the following statement into the Congressional Record today during floor debate on the Republican legislation to repeal health care reform.
"Thank you Mr. Speaker, and I thank the Judiciary Committee's Ranking Member, my friend Mr. Conyers, for yielding the time.
I'm proud to join my Democratic colleagues on the floor this afternoon to state our unequivocal stance against health care reform repeal.
