REP. WATERS STATEMENT MARKING 22 YEARS SINCE THE SEPTEMBER 11 TERROR ATTACKS
Washington D.C. - Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee, released the following statement
“Today, we solemnly commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. On that Tuesday morning, our nation was forever changed as 3,000 people lost their lives, thousands were injured, and many more experienced heartbreaking pain and sorrow. We pause today to honor the victims of those evil attacks, which included eight children. Our deepest sympathies go out to their families, friends, and loved ones.
On one of the most tragic days in our nation’s history, we saw Americans heroically step up to bring each other to safety. We honor the brave first responders and volunteers who selflessly rushed into crumbling buildings and sacrificed their own lives to save others. They fill our hearts with awe and pride. Many of them continue to suffer from illnesses related to their service, and House Democrats are committed to ensuring that these brave men and women receive the support they need and deserve.
Our nation’s response to this tragedy demonstrated our strength, unity, and resilience. May we honor the lives lost on that day and the sacrifices made by striving to build a better, more peaceful world. We will never forget.”
