Rep. Waters Statement on Gilroy Garlic Festival Shooting in Gilroy, CA
LOS ANGELES – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43) released a statement following the tragic shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California that claimed 3 lives and injured at least 12 people:
"Like so many across the country, I woke up this morning to the horrific news that our nation had endured yet another act of senseless violence, resulting in the loss of three innocent lives – including a 6-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl -- and leaving at least 12 people injured at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California. My heart aches for those who were lost and wounded, and I extend my sincere condolences to their loved ones and the people of Gilroy.
"These mass killings have become all too common and frequent. This is the third mass shooting that has ravaged a community in my home state of California in the past year. Our local law enforcement agencies and first responders are doing all they can to protect our communities, but the time is now for bipartisan and bicameral legislative action. I call upon my colleagues in the Senate to join us in this fight to save lives and take up commonsense gun reforms, such as H.R. 8, a bipartisan bill that passed the House in February and would require a background check for every gun sale or transfer in this country."
