Joins City of Lawndale Virtual Memorial Day Ceremony

LOS ANGELES – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), Chair of the House Financial Services Committee, paid tribute to the brave military servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our great nation during the City of Lawndale's virtual 2020 Memorial Day Ceremony.

"Since the beginning of our nation, patriotic men and women have stepped forward to serve in our military because they believe in the ideals the United States of America stands for – peace, liberty, freedom and justice for all," said Congresswoman Maxine Waters. "Many of those men and women sacrificed their lives for all of us, and for our country. On Memorial Day, we pay homage to their sacrifice. As the representative for the 43rd District of California in the United States Congress, I am forever grateful for, and committed to, the brave men and women who put on the uniform of our great country and volunteered to protect our liberties and our way of life."

Every year for more than a decade, Congresswoman Waters has attended Memorial Day events in the 43rd District cities of Lawndale, Inglewood, and Hawthorne. In adherence to social distancing guidelines, the City of Lawndale organized a virtual ceremony to honor fallen servicemembers. According to the City of Lawndale, this year marks the 14th year in a row that Congresswoman Waters has partnered with local officials to recognize Memorial Day.

"This is a day that is very sacred to so many of us and most importantly to the families of those whose lives we honor today and whose names are inscribed on Lawndale's Memorial Wall and so many others across our country. I join you in sharing these remembrances, and nothing—not even a pandemic—will take these memories from us," said Congresswoman Waters.
