Rep. Maxine Waters to Host SOTU Millennial Media Row on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON -- On Tuesday, January 30, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee, will host a State of the Union (SOTU) Millennial Media Row for millennial media outlets and journalists to interview and engage with members of the House Democratic Caucus. The press event will provide a unique opportunity for Members of Congress to discuss what is at stake for millennials under the Trump Administration agenda and why young people should be involved in the democratic process.

"To my utter surprise and delight I have been adopted by the millennial community, which has affectionately named me ‘Auntie Maxine', and I have gained an understanding of the valuable ways in which these young people are using social media and the internet to voice their concerns about public policy, our government, and world events," said Congresswoman Waters. "To that end, I am committed to being an enabler and a catalyst for millennials, ensuring that they have access to other elected officials and the legislative process, and that they also have an opportunity to be at the table to advise and develop public policy in the federal, state, and local government."

The SOTU Millennial Media row is the first event held exclusively for millennial media outlets to engage with Members of Congress on Capitol Hill in advance of a presidential State of the Union address. It is also the first in a series of press events that Congresswoman Waters will host to ensure that these outlets have a consistent presence on Capitol Hill.

Tuesday's event will include representatives from The Grio, Mic, Vibe, Elle, Glamour, Cheddar, Mass Appeal, Teen Vogue, and NowThis.
