CONGRESSWOMAN MAXINE WATERS MEETS WITH THE GRAND MARSHALL AT THE CITY OF TORRANCE 63RD ANNUAL ARMED FORCES DAY PARADE AND CELEBRATION
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), Ranking Member of the Committee on Financial Services, met with Grand Marshall Lieutenant General Jonathan P. Braga, active service members, veterans, and other leaders at the City of Torrance’s 63rd Annual Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration on May 17, 2025.
“As an elected official, it is my responsibility not only to honor service members and veterans but to ensure that they receive the benefits and services they’ve been promised,” said Congresswoman Waters.
The City of Torrance’s Armed Forces Day Parade is the nation’s longest-running military parade, sponsored by any city. It has drawn up to 100,000 spectators a year to watch as many as 8,000 parade participants march along the parade route from downtown Torrance to City Hall. This year’s celebration commemorated the 250th anniversary of the US Army, Navy, and Marine Corps.
“It is vitally important that we honor the brave men and women who serve in our nation’s armed forces and have fought to protect our nation,” said the Congresswoman. “Veterans should feel that same honor as they return home or leave service. That is why I have, for decades, worked with organizations to provide housing and other supportive services to service members and veterans. And that is why I spearheaded legislation to create the Center for Women Veterans, which is a special bureau within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that advocates for women veterans. I will always fight to support our nation’s service members and veterans.”
